For comparison, my current honda civic was involved in a like blow, but at speed in an intersection. It was repaired and documented. 70k mi later, no issues, and everything lines up properly.

Yes if information technology was dull speed no worries.. When I bought my A4 in 2006 one of the dealer told me they can only come across all services that were done at their local audi dealer. They can't see services done just they can check if a recall was completed.

Its just too bad yous tin't notice out how many miles the oil was changed considering the 1.8s are known for oil sludge.
Scan for everything but big parts would be engine, manual wait for Hvac make sure y'all dont see any Air-conditioning servo result I know its pocket-size but again these cars accept issues like that.

if you're just trying to purchase a car off the street of from a corner lot or something you'll get no assistance.
VAG's policy in general is that they will not release any information regarding a vehicles history IF the repair was paid for past said previous owner.
They volition usually give yous the records of anything that was done nether warranty or per a recall or TSB, as long as there is no personally identifiable information attached.
The policy isn't actually mandated by any specific constabulary I don't recall, because not all dealerships go past information technology- merely the big ones typically practise and they tend to blur the poicy heavily if they have the machine for auction themselves.
When yous practise get the info you'll get a headache considering information technology'southward unremarkably just a printout that lists labor codes that are very difficult to decipher and role numbers.foley803 : What does an electrical surge audio like? Barking dogs? Watermelons?

This probably won't help the OP as this thread is pretty old, but maybe others might notice it useful:
brand a (free) account at mycarfax.com (use a throwaway email accost if your tinfoil hat is leaky)
Add the VIN of whatever car to your 'garage', and you lot volition be able to see the service history from all the dealers, besides equally a lot of independents.
Some records are more detailed than others. Simply it is skillful resources to check, for example, if that socal machine was actually in mammoth or tahoe most of its life.
